Last year Chadwick Boseman brought the story of Jackie Robinson to life, it was a pretty good film but also brought Boseman to the spotlight as a top up and coming actor. A year removed from the success of 42 we now have Get On Up, the story of James Brown as told by the director of The Help Tate Taylor. Get On Up boasts a cast that includes Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer ( The Help), Academy Award nominee Viola Davis (The Help, Doubt), Dan Aykroyd, Nelsan Ellis(HBO's True Blood), Craig Robinson (This Is The End) and Lennie James (AMC's The Walking Dead and Low Winter Sun). It will tell the story of James Brown from his poor beginnings to his role as one of the most influential musicians in history. Get On Up will hit theaters August 1st.
I was a big fan of 42 and of Boseman's understated performance as the influential Jackie Robinson. I was a only a little surprised that he was tapped to play James Brown after the success of 42. My one fear of this story being told is if they could find a way to make Brown's hair not look fake on an actor playing the role. It's the only thing that hasn't sold me about the trailer, it's a good trailer even if it clocks in at just under 3 minutes, I am looking forward to seeing what Boseman can do and hopefully the hair isn't too distracting.
