Orlando Bloom Might Be Coming Back To The Pirates Franchise
by Rob Goldman
Whether you can believe it or not Pirates of the Caribbean first hit the big screen 11 years ago. First created based off of the Disneyland theme park ride the film franchise has now grossed almost $5.4 billion worldwide. So I wasn’t that surprised when Disney announced Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales would be released in summer of 2017. But I was surprised when I heard Orlando Bloom may be reprising his role as Will Turner.
His last appearance in the franchise was in 2007, when he was bound to sail the sea as the Dutchman’s captain. As you might know, the captain of the Dutchman is allowed to step upon land once every ten years. Which prompts the second question, ‘Will Keira Knightley be returning?’
I mean it makes sense on two levels. First, it would fit very smoothly into the story. The release of the 5th film will be 2017 which is ten years from the release of At World’s End and I really don’t see how they can incorporate his character into the mix without bringing back Knightley as well. Secondly, the 4th film On Stranger Tides had the lowest grossing domestic box office of the entire series. They could be looking to add some star power to get those numbers back up.
But again, nothing is definite yet. Orlando Bloom had this to say: “There have certainly been some discussions about it and I'm open to it. That whole experience working with Johnny and (director) Gore (Verbinski) was really amazing for me. I had a great time working with Johnny, one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity was because Johnny was involved. I was such a massive fan of Johnny Depp growing up so to get up close and personal to Johnny and see how he worked as an actor was just a massive gift.”
Do you think Orlando Bloom should come back to the Pirates Franchise? If so, how do you think he will be brought back?
