Deadline Hollywood is reporting that 20th Century Fox has just finished gaining the rights to the Vanity Fair article "The Ballad of Richard Jewell". The article is the true story about a security guard who was first discovered the backpack bomb at the 1996 olympics, saved innocent bystanders, was labeled a hero, then thanks to false media reports was vilified. Fox will be teaming up with Appian Way for the film, which is the production company of Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio is set to produce and star in the film along with fellow Oscar nominee and The Wolf of Wall Street co-star Jonah Hill. Hill will play the security guard Jewell and DiCaprio will star as the lawyer who comes to his defense.
Both Hill and DiCaprio will produce the film along with Producer Jennifer Davisson Killoran. They are the only names attached to the film presently, as the search begins for a writer and director. No start date or release date has been announced.
