Written by Steven Panzarella(@ProCreateSteve)
Tristar has optioned the memoir of Major League Baseball pitcher, R.A. Dickey, and in the process have given the first project to A Thing or Two Productions. The production company was started by actors Ben McKenzie (The OC, Southland) and Logan Marshall Green (Prometheus), and this is a nice way to begin that venture. The Memoir "Wherever I Wind Up: My Quest for Truth, Authenticity, and the Perfect Knuckleball" tells the story of Dickey's career as a journeyman knuckleball pitcher turned Cy Young award winner and an early life that dealt with sexual abuse. Buzz Bissinger (NBC's Friday Night Lights) is slated to write the script, according to Deadline neither actor wants to star in the film. Recently McKenzie began shooting the pilot for Gotham where he will play Detective Jim Gordon and Marshall Green is set to appear in John Hillcoat's made for TV movie, Quarry.
The R.A. Dickey story is an interesting one, following an abusive childhood Dickey began his career going from Minor league baseball team to minor league baseball team. He broke through in the majors with the Texas Rangers in 2001. He spent 2001-2007 going between the Minor and Major leagues with the Rangers and the Milwaukee Brewers before spending two years in the majors with Seattle and Minnesota. In 2010 Dickey began pitching for the New York Mets and in 2012 he won baseballs highest pitching honor, the Cy Young award. The following season the Mets traded Dickey to the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto signed him to a 2 year contract worth $25 million. Dickey is most known for his odd pitching style that includes his signature Knuckleball, ESPN documented Dickey's career as a knuckleball pitcher in their 30 for 30 series. Dickey is 39 years old and is still considered the blue jays best pitcher following a rough season in Toronto where the knuckleballer went 14-13 with an ERA above 4.
